BE LED BY YOUR DREAMS
Hernö Gin is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden. Our hand hammered copper stills Kierstin and Marit are crafting our award winning organic gin from natural botanics. It all began with a passion for gin and a dream evolving to gin crafting. A journey that took me to places and gin distilleries all around the world in my thirst for knowledge and my search for ginspiration.
When I bought an 1800-century farm in Dala, situated in the The High Coast of Sweden, and started to create truly organic, artisan gin inspired by the natural beauty of the region, magic began to happen. Today Hernö Gin is the most awarded gin in Europe.
HERNÖ GIN IS A DREAM COME TRUE.
Jon Hillgren, founder and Master Distiller, Hernö Gin.
FEEL THE BLISS OF SOLITUDE
There is a power and a great beauty in solitude. Situated in the middle of nowhere, but yet a strong spot on the map of the ginworld, the village of Dala has a natural beauty inspiring to create and make dreams come true. Dala has the perfect soil for purity and passion, which is the most important ingredients in our products. The result is a gin so palatable that there is no need to mix it with anything else.
SHARE THE FUN WITH OTHERS
We love to be social. While we are bringing ginlovers from near and far closer to the outskirts of the world we are going places. In everyday life and in our minds. Openness, curiosity and joy characterize who we are and how we relate to others. It is also the secret behind development and success. Networking, cooperation and knowledge exchange is taking us further on our journey. And we are welcoming everybody that wants to follow us on the road.
ONCE UPON A TIME
It all began with a passion that took off when a young Jon Hillgren went to London working in a bar and discovered a world of gin.
SHAPING THE DREAM
After years of research and gin studies, a university degree in political science and working as a bureaucrat while dreaming about gin crafting Jon had a plan ready.
THE START OF HERNÖ GIN
Jon followed a friends advice: ”Stop talking and start to act!” and founded Hernö Gin. When Jon and his wife bought a 1800 century farm in Dala the realisation of a dream became possible.
After the establishment of Hernö Gin, Jon asked his wife Johanna, his sister Elin and her husband Mathias and a friend to invest in his dream. With 1.5 MSEK in their pockets they built the first distillery, installed the hand hammered copper still Kierstin and began to craft gin.
The 1st December 2012 Hernö Gin was launched at three local Systembolaget stores. In Härnösand people were standing in line, queuing up in front of the only liquor store, to get hold of the first bottles of Hernö Gin.
Hernö Gin was the most awarded gin at The International Gin Masters 2013. The word spread all over the world and Hernö Gin success story began for real.
To prepare for growth on the international market Hernö Gin had to expand. An issue of shares offered to gin enthusiasts made it possible to build a new distillery and a visitor centre.
Gin season kept going. The results of the most prestigious international competitions consolidated Hernö Gin's position as a worldclass gin and it was awarded over and over again.
MOST AWARDED GIN IN EUROPE
Hernö Gin was the most awarded gin in Europe 2013–2017. Honoured with the World's best Gin twice, the World's best London Dry Gin, the World's best Gin & Tonic and the Gin Producer of the Year twice. Among many others.
