PIONEERS DRIVEN BY PASSION
Hernö Gin is the world’s leading and most awarded craft gin producer. Proud pioneers who started the first gin distillery in Sweden back in 2011. It all began with a passion for the juniper predominant spirit and a dream evolving to gin crafting. A journey that took Hernö Gin’s founder Jon Hillgren to places and gin distilleries all around the world in his thirst for knowledge and search for inspiration. Finally settling in the small village of Dala just outside Härnösand in the High Coast of Sweden.
Hernö Gin is crafting the world’s most awarded gins from natural organic botanicals in the hand hammered copper stills Kierstin and Marit. With a mindset of crafting, transparency in all parts of the process and total focus on quality, Hernö Gin intend to bring premium gin culture to every home.
FEEL THE BLISS OF SOLITUDE
There is a power and a great beauty in solitude. Situated in the middle of nowhere, but yet a strong spot on the map of the gin world, the village of Dala has a natural beauty inspiring to create and make dreams come true. Dala has the perfect soil for purity and passion, which is the most important ingredients in our products. The result is a gin so palatable that there is no need to mix it with anything else.
SHARE THE FUN WITH OTHERS
We love to be social. While we are bringing gin lovers from near and far closer to the outskirts of the world we are going places. In everyday life and in our minds. Openness, curiosity and joy characterize who we are and how we relate to others. It is also the secret behind development and success. Networking, cooperation and knowledge exchange is taking us further on our journey. And we are welcoming everybody that wants to follow us on the road.
ONCE UPON A TIME
It all began with a passion that took off when a young Jon Hillgren went to London working in a bar and discovered a world of gin.
SHAPING THE DREAM
After years of research and gin studies, a university degree in political science and working as a bureaucrat while dreaming about gin crafting Jon had a plan ready.
THE START OF HERNÖ GIN
Jon followed a friends advice: ”Stop talking and start to act!” and founded Hernö Gin. When Jon and his wife bought a 1800 century farm in Dala the realization of a dream became possible.
After the establishment of Hernö Gin, Jon asked his wife Johanna, his sister Elin and her husband Mathias and a friend to invest in his dream. With 1.5 MSEK in their pockets they built the first distillery, installed the hand hammered copper still Kierstin and began to craft gin.
The 1st December 2012 Hernö Gin was launched at three local Systembolaget stores. In Härnösand people were standing in line, queuing up in front of the only liquor store, to get hold of the first bottles of Hernö Gin.
Hernö Gin was the most awarded gin at The International Gin Masters 2013. The word spread all over the world and Hernö Gin success story began for real.
To prepare for growth on the international market Hernö Gin had to expand. An issue of shares offered to gin enthusiasts made it possible to build a new distillery and a visitor center with the new copper still Marit in the center of everybody's attention.
Gin season kept going. The results of the most prestigious international competitions consolidated Hernö Gin's position as a world class gin and it was awarded over and over again.
